What Is Plasma?

Opus Plasma uses radiofrequency energy to generate plasma at the skin's surface, delivered in a precise fractional pattern through tiny metal pins. This creates controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the body's wound-healing response, triggering new collagen and elastin production.

The treatment is highly effective for fine lines and wrinkles, skin laxity on the face and neck, acne scarring, uneven texture, enlarged pores, and general skin quality improvement. Because it treats a fraction of the skin at a time, surrounding tissue promotes faster healing than traditional ablative resurfacing.

Most clients see meaningful results after 1 session, with optimal improvement after 2 to 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Results continue building for 4 to 8 weeks as new collagen matures. Opus Plasma can also be performed on the neck, chest, and other body areas.

What to Expect

Before

Stop retinoids and active topicals 1 week before your appointment. Inform your provider of any active cold sores or skin infections in the treatment area — antiviral medication may be prescribed preventively. Topical numbing cream is applied 45 minutes before the session begins.

During

With numbing in place, the Opus Plasma device is moved across the skin in a systematic pattern. The device tip delivers plasma energy in precise fractional bursts. You will feel warmth and mild stinging during the session. Skin appears red and shows a fine grid-like texture pattern immediately after. The session takes 30 to 45 minutes.

After

Expect redness, mild swelling, and a grid-like micro-crust pattern on the skin for 3 to 5 days. Keep skin well moisturized. Do not pick or scrub. Stay completely out of direct sun. The micro-crusts shed naturally over 5 to 7 days, revealing smoother skin beneath. Full collagen results mature at 4 to 8 weeks.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Opus Plasma different from laser?
Laser resurfacing uses light energy absorbed by water or pigment in the skin. Opus Plasma uses radiofrequency-generated plasma energy at the skin surface, which interacts with tissue differently. Both create controlled injury to stimulate collagen. Opus Plasma typically offers a favorable downtime-to-results ratio compared to many resurfacing lasers.
How much downtime is there?
The visible recovery period is 3 to 5 days, during which the skin looks textured and slightly crusted. Social downtime is typically up to 1 week. Full recovery, meaning skin is healed and presentable, occurs by 7 to 10 days for most clients. Peak results arrive weeks later as collagen builds.
When will I see results?
Initial smoothing is visible once healing completes at 7 to 10 days. The most significant results appear at 4 to 8 weeks as new collagen matures. Results continue improving over 3 to 6 months with each session in a series.
Does it hurt?
Numbing cream is applied 45 minutes before the session, which makes the treatment very manageable. During the procedure, clients feel warmth and mild stinging rather than sharp pain. The session is brief, which helps with overall comfort.
Can it be done on the neck and chest?
Yes. Opus Plasma is commonly used on the neck, decolletage, and hands as well as the face. These areas respond very well to the collagen stimulation and often show noticeable improvement in laxity and texture after treatment.
