What Is Peel?

The Derma Peel is a high-strength medical peel using TCA (trichloroacetic acid) as its primary active. It penetrates deeper into the skin than standard chemical peels, triggering a more significant remodeling response and addressing concerns that surface-level peels cannot resolve.

It is particularly effective for melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, severe sun damage, deep acne scarring, and pronounced fine lines. The trade-off is more significant downtime than lighter peels. Results are correspondingly more dramatic.

Most clients need 1 to 3 sessions spaced 8 to 12 weeks apart. A pre-treatment home care protocol of 2 to 4 weeks is recommended before the first session to prime the skin and improve results. The skin reveals itself gradually as healing completes over 2 to 4 weeks.

What to Expect

Before

A prescribed home care regimen of 2 to 4 weeks is recommended before your first Derma Peel to prime the skin and reduce pigmentation risk. Stop retinoids 1 week before. No active skin infections or open lesions in the treatment area. Avoid extended sun exposure for 2 weeks prior.

During

The skin is thoroughly cleansed before multiple layers of TCA solution are applied to the treatment area. A stinging sensation is expected and normal. Your provider monitors the skin closely, watching for frosting (a white appearance) that indicates proper penetration. The process takes 30 to 45 minutes.

After

Expect significant redness, tightness, and peeling over 5 to 10 days. Do not pick, peel, or scrub the skin. Moisturize frequently with the products provided. Stay completely out of direct sun during healing. Results become fully visible at 2 to 4 weeks as new skin emerges.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from a regular chemical peel?
A standard chemical peel exfoliates the surface layers of skin for a brightness refresh. The Derma Peel penetrates significantly deeper, triggering structural remodeling of the skin. The depth difference accounts for both the greater downtime and the more profound results.
Who is this peel for?
The Derma Peel is designed for clients who have stubborn pigmentation, melasma, significant sun damage, or acne scarring that has not responded adequately to lighter treatments. It is also appropriate for those who want maximum results from a peel and can accommodate 5 to 10 days of visible recovery.
How long until I see results?
The skin heals and peels over 5 to 10 days. Final results appear at the 2 to 4-week mark as the fresh skin fully emerges. Clients typically see the most significant pigmentation improvement and texture refinement in the weeks following the peel, with continued improvement over 3 months.
How many sessions will I need?
One session produces meaningful improvement. For melasma or deeper scarring, 2 to 3 sessions spaced 8 to 12 weeks apart achieve the full correction. Your provider assesses your progress after the first peel to determine whether additional sessions are appropriate.
Is it safe for all skin tones?
Deeper peels carry increased risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in darker skin tones. A thorough assessment of your skin type, tone, and history is required before scheduling. Pre-treatment with appropriate topicals reduces this risk. Your provider will advise you honestly about candidacy.
