The Treatment

What Is Botox?

Botox is botulinum toxin type A — a purified protein injected in tiny amounts into specific facial muscles to temporarily reduce their activity. When those muscles relax, the skin above them smooths out, softening lines and wrinkles that form from years of repeated expression.

The most common treatment areas are the forehead, the frown lines between the brows (called the 11s), and crow's feet around the eyes. Botox also addresses bunny lines on the nose, lip lines, chin dimpling, and neck bands.

Results appear within 3 to 7 days and reach their peak at 2 weeks. Most clients see effects lasting 3 to 4 months before a maintenance appointment is needed.

What to Expect

Before

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment. If you take blood thinners, consult your provider about pausing them 1 week prior if medically appropriate. Arrive with clean skin — no makeup or heavy moisturizers on the treatment areas.

During

Your provider marks the injection sites based on your muscle movement and facial anatomy. A series of small, precise injections are made using a very fine needle. The entire appointment takes 15 to 20 minutes. Most clients describe the sensation as minimal — a brief pinch at each site.

After

Do not rub or massage the treated areas for 4 hours. Stay upright for 4 hours after the appointment. Avoid strenuous exercise and excessive heat for 24 hours. Small bumps or redness at injection sites typically resolve within 30 minutes. Results start appearing at 3 to 7 days.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Botox hurt?
The needles used for Botox are extremely fine, and most clients describe the sensation as a brief, mild pinch at each injection site. The procedure takes under 20 minutes and requires no numbing cream for most people. Any discomfort resolves immediately after each injection.
How long until I see results?
Results begin appearing within 3 to 7 days as the muscles gradually relax. You will notice the most significant change at the 2-week mark, which is considered peak effect. If you feel the results are uneven or insufficient at 2 weeks, contact us for a follow-up assessment.
Will I look frozen or unnatural?
Not with a skilled injector. The goal is to soften lines while preserving natural movement and expression. We use conservative, precise dosing tailored to your anatomy. The frozen look comes from over-treatment — that is never our approach at Maeven.
How often do I need Botox?
Most clients return every 3 to 4 months for maintenance. With consistent treatment over time, some clients find their results last longer because the muscles become conditioned to staying relaxed. Your provider will help you find the right schedule for your goals.
Can I combine Botox with fillers?
Yes. Botox and fillers address different concerns and work very well together. Botox relaxes muscles to smooth dynamic lines, while fillers restore volume and structure. Many clients receive both in the same appointment for a comprehensive refreshed result.
