What Is XL Pro?

The Harmony XL Pro by Alma Lasers is a multi-application platform that combines several laser and light technologies in one system, including IPL (intense pulsed light), Nd:YAG, and fractional laser modules. This makes it one of the most versatile devices in aesthetic medicine.

At Maeven, we use Harmony XL Pro to treat hyperpigmentation, sun spots, vascular lesions, rosacea, acne and acne scars, hair removal, skin laxity, and more. The same device handles all of these through interchangeable handpieces calibrated for each specific concern and skin type.

Treatment parameters are customized for your skin tone, concern, and desired outcome at each session. Most clients require multiple sessions to achieve their goals — the exact number depends on what is being treated. Results become visible within 2 to 4 weeks of each session.

What to Expect

Before

Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks before treatment. Stop retinoids and active topicals 1 week prior. For hair removal sessions, shave the treatment area 24 hours before your appointment. Do not wax, thread, or apply self-tanner in the treatment area. Arrive with clean skin.

During

A topical numbing cream is optional for most treatments and available on request. The handpiece is moved across the skin delivering precise pulses of energy. A built-in cooling system minimizes discomfort. Each pulse feels like a brief rubber band snap. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes depending on the size and number of areas treated.

After

Mild redness and swelling resolves within 1 to 3 days for most treatment types. Some pigmentation treatments cause spots to temporarily darken before they flake away over 7 to 14 days. SPF daily is essential after every session. Hair removal clients should shave between sessions rather than waxing.

Is it safe for all skin types?
The Harmony XL Pro is designed to treat a wide range of skin tones. However, some settings carry higher risk for darker complexions, and specific protocols are selected based on your Fitzpatrick skin type. Your provider performs a full assessment before any treatment to confirm the appropriate settings.
How many sessions do I need?
It depends entirely on what you are treating. A single IPL photofacial can significantly reduce sun spots in one session. Acne scarring and hair removal typically require 6 or more sessions for full results. Your provider outlines a realistic session plan based on your specific concern at your consultation.
Does the treatment hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as a quick snap followed by warmth. The built-in cooling system and optional numbing cream make the experience very manageable. Laser hair removal sessions are generally the easiest to tolerate; fractional treatments involve more heat sensation.
What is the downtime?
It varies by treatment type. A standard photofacial produces 1 to 2 days of mild redness. Fractional treatments for scarring or laxity may result in 3 to 5 days of redness and texture changes. Hair removal sessions have virtually no downtime.
What does Harmony XL Pro not treat?
While the platform covers an extraordinary range of indications, it is not suitable for every client or condition. Deep cystic acne, certain vascular conditions, and some pigmentation types require different approaches. Your provider will be direct about whether this is the right treatment for your specific concern.
