What Is Removal?

Laser hair removal works by directing concentrated light energy into hair follicles. The melanin (pigment) in the hair absorbs the light, converting it to heat, which damages the follicle and inhibits future growth. Because follicles must be in an active growth phase to be affected, multiple sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart are required.

Treatment areas include the upper lip, chin, neck, underarms, legs, bikini line, Brazilian, arms, back, and chest. Each area requires a slightly different approach and session count. Face treatments typically need more sessions than body areas due to hormonal hair growth patterns.

After a full course of 6 to 8 sessions, most clients achieve 80 to 90 percent permanent hair reduction. Some fine maintenance touch-up sessions once or twice a year keep results maximized long-term, particularly for hormonally influenced areas.

What to Expect

Before

Shave the treatment area 24 hours before your appointment. Do not wax, thread, or tweeze for 4 weeks prior — the follicle must contain the hair root. Avoid sun exposure and tanning for 2 weeks before. Come with clean skin and no lotions or deodorant on the day of treatment.

During

Your provider applies a cooling gel to the treatment area and passes the laser handpiece in sections. Each pulse delivers a quick flash of energy. The built-in cooling tip protects the surface of the skin. Most areas are completed in 15 to 45 minutes. Some clients request a topical numbing cream for sensitive areas.

After

Mild redness and a sensation similar to mild sunburn typically resolve within a few hours. Hair sheds progressively over 2 to 3 weeks after each session. Between sessions, shave only — no waxing or plucking. Avoid sun exposure and use SPF on treated areas. Each session reduces density further until the full reduction goal is reached.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions do I need?
Most clients need 6 to 8 sessions for optimal results. Hair grows in cycles, and laser only affects follicles in the active growth phase. Sessions are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart for body areas and 4 weeks apart for facial areas to catch each cycle.
Does it work on blonde, red, or grey hair?
Laser targets melanin — the pigment in the hair. Very light hair colors including blonde, white, and grey contain insufficient melanin for the laser to effectively target. Dark, coarse hair responds best. Your provider will give you an honest assessment of expected results based on your hair color.
Is it permanent?
Laser hair removal achieves permanent reduction, not always 100 percent elimination. Most clients see 80 to 90 percent reduction after a full course. Hormonal changes can stimulate new follicles over time, which is why occasional maintenance sessions are helpful for some areas.
Can I get it on my face?
Yes. Upper lip, chin, sideburns, and full face are among the most commonly treated areas. Facial hair removal typically requires more sessions than body areas due to hormonal influences, but the results are highly effective and well worth the investment.
Does it hurt?
The sensation is described as a quick snap followed by warmth. The cooling tip on the handpiece minimizes discomfort significantly. Most clients find the procedure very tolerable without numbing. Sensitive areas like the bikini line or upper lip may be slightly more uncomfortable, and numbing cream is available.
